All,

Good afternoon! I'm aware that one can "Update the Origin" in Recap to reposition and reorient the origin geometry in Recap, but I'm wondering if it is possible to just reposition the origin numerically. For example, if I like the orientation of the origin geometry, but want to move the origin up 5 inches in the +Z direction, is there any combination of tools that will allow me to do this? This would also be handy for simply sliding the axis around in the X or Y directions. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

hey @petestrycharske,

Have you considered using the target point tool to create a point that pushes the data set up / left / right, etc?

You could create a target point that has the same x and y coordinates but a z coordinate that is +5 higher than the original data set. This should force your model up.

Please “Accept As Solution” if a reply or replies have helped resolve the issue or answered your question, to help others in the community.

Jayson,

Good afternoon! I'm not familiar with a target points in Recap. Are you referring to setting up targets while the actual scanning is taking place? Or are you referring to using the "Update Origin" tool and picking a point that is close to the elevation that I'm looking for? Do you have a video that illustrates your suggestion? Just want to make sure that I'm understanding. Thanks for the help, hope all is well and have a most blessed day!

hi @petestrycharske,

Sorry for the delay. Got a little distracted yesterday 🙂

Make it a survey point, name it "A", fill in the x and y values that you see in the top boxes, but for your z value, add 5 from the z in the top box, and put that number in the bottom box.

Save that survey point, and make 2 more, "B" and "C". (again with adding 5 to the z value)

Now your rcp is 5 units higher than it was before. (I would recommend for testing purposes you do something more like 20 or 100 so that you can see and verify your trial worked)

I did recently create a video on how to use Survey Points in ReCap Pro. Please note that the coordinates I was making them for were for much closer coordinates ie changing 1.98 to 2.00 as I was just creating the video to show a customer how to use survey points and not to intentionally alter the x,y, or z coordinates drastically.

Using Survey Points in ReCap PRO

Please let me know if you need any more assistance with this or if this resolves your issue 🙂

You could apply the same principles to move your model in the x or y direction as well.

Good afternoon! That makes sense and was sort of what I figured the option was in my case (not having structured data). Most of the time, my clients will have structured data, so I really like the survey point. However, I'll keep this option in my back pocket for those unstructured scenarios. Thank you sir, a scholar and a gentleman! Have an awesome and most blessed day!
