Maybe you are able to get these pts files in some other, more optimized format like e57 or las/laz? You can also try to convert from pts to e57 or las/laz yourself using free tools like CloudCompare or lastools and try again.

Using ReCap Pro v 24.0,I do the following:

I create a new project

Import point cloud

I enter the project name and specify the folder.

I select a .pts file

I can import it

After import I press `index scans`

ReCap crashes

This is so mega annoying, I have no clue where to start debugging.

I have a RTX 3090FE video card and 32Gb ram. Im using Windows 11 pro.

When I set decimation to 100mm, the scan works, but the file becomes unusable as there is no accuracy....

The .pts files are between 192.000 and 510.000 KB in size.

Thank you for your reply. I tried CloudCompare, opened the .pts file and saved it as e57 file. I then open it in ReCap, set decimation to 10 and It will index, this works. However, only a small part of my pts file is 'there' / visible. This is very strange.....

When I open the e57 file in CloudCompare, the whole scan is visible.

You probably can't attach the e57 here, but if you send it to me some other way, I can take a look at it.

Would you able to share the PTS file directly with us? If Yes, I will PM you a private one-drive link for sharing.
