The current workflow to have optimizations in ReCap appear in other products (until the 2017 line ships) is to "Save As" the project. You should see the following dialog:

Points removed in this way won't be visible in 3d within other Autodesk 2016 or 2015 products.

I have been avoiding optimization when i save because any of the points i have deleted when i clean my scans, come back in autocad when i optimize on save.

I had a minute to try this test.

See Screencast below.

Basically, optimizing brings all my points back that i deleted. this video only shows recap to autocad, but the same is true in navisworks.

http://autode.sk/1Ox44AL

Because this is a new feature with ReCap, probably it's not yet included within AutoCad and hopefully it will be handled in the latest 2017 version that it's about to come out in few months.

For now I would optimize for use in ReCap, and almost always Unify export new rcs for use in any other Autodesk product.

Same here. In some Recap projects the command optimize works well, and in some not.

But i have no idea why..... unbelievable....

When you optimize the project, ReCap rewrites the scan files, marking each deleted point as such. The deleted points remain in the file, and are recoverable. AutoCAD has not updated to read the optimized information.

If you want to completely get rid of the deleted area, you can choose to "remove points" in a "SaveAs" operation.

More detailed information can be found from the ReCap help document link:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/RECAP/2016/ENU/?guid=GUID-A0B94C90-2891-4A28-987A-3C0AB4DBF103

watch from 0:43, the points come back right after optimizing, before even going to any other program.

My guess is that the same project is open in both AutoCAD and Recap while you are editing it in Recap. You could try closing AutoCAD before optimizing in Recap.

Ashwini
