Relocating RCP files in 2023 doesn't work

So after downloading Recap 2023 the other day (why is this even released so early in 2022?) I've spent nearly 2 full workdays trying to relocate an RCP file.

Essentially, if anyone wants to do this, it doesn't work in 2023, so don't even bother downloading it if you want to relocate a pointcloud accurately. I had to downgrade to a previous version and then it worked the first time as it usually does (adding 3 coordinates into the registration and setting as "survey points").

Can anyone at Autodesk tell me why software is released so early if it doesn't work as it should? I understand new features maybe having a couple of bugs, but this process has been the same for many years for me and I've had no issues until now. It seems like Autodesk spend their time giving us new "fancy" software icons as opposed to actually giving us software that works as it should. More fool us for going back every year and buying new licenses...

When I installed 2023, I was able to open all the projects as is from 2022.

Hello @ramesh_sridharan ,

So by "relocating" I don't mean just opening. I mean physically moving an RCP file from its original registered position to a new position using 3 survey point coordinates in the registration. In 2023 this does not work as it should and it positions the pointcloud in a location miles away from its intended destination, after downgrading back to 2020, it worked flawlesly using the exact same 3 survey point coordinates.

Regards, Tim

I too had to undergo a 2 day troubleshoot before finding this. Disappointed in the new software for this glitch!

Thank you for posting this to the thread...I uninstalled the 2023 version and re-installed 2020 (2022, 2021 did the same nasty trick), then opened registration / reset origin and the scan went back to the coordinates that I assigned to it.

I did not have to start a new .RCP from the beginning thankfully.

Same issue, tried for two days and get something like a 2x multiplier in the final location. BUT, if you do a measurement in the scan location you get the correct coordinate read-out. everything was working flawless, until upgrade to 2023 last week

Hi mmason,

I haven't even tried to upgrade again, it's not surprising to hear they haven't fixed the issue. I've been working back on 2018 since I posted the topic 9 months ago, just not worth upgrading. They always manage to break things that they change that don't need changing in the first place.

Hi @mmason ,

There was a regression last year after we released ReCap 2023 for survey points. We released a hotfix right after that as below (The first point in the release notes):

You can install the hotfix over ReCap 2023 or you could directly install ReCap 2024 and this issue is resolved. These are found in manage.autodesk.com. Hotfixes under Products & Updates.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Thanking You.

Warmest Regards,
