Unfortunately, manually re-uploading the images with missing thumbnails to 360 (in the Project/Images folder) doesn't help with thumbnails.

I have a project that I just shared named "Crawford St". It is a complete mess. There are some images that are apparently fouling up the process, because I have created duplicate projects using some of the images for each project and the results are good.

My problem is I want to remove the images that are causing the problem; however, when I click on the images I get "loading image frame" and nothing ever happens... I'm not able to find the images to delete!

I'm just going to take this opportunity to say that when Autodesk includes this product as part of the building design suite and you tell us about the capabilities that we have, then the product acts like a poor beta and doesn't work. it causes us not to be able to deliver to our clients. This is poor service. You guy even roll out changes to the product that result in service outages.

Nice! Did you just re-upload the images with the missing thumbnails directly into the project (overwriting the existing ones), or did you work 'manually' in the 360 drive folder?

I feel a bit like an explorer here 🙂

Hello,

You can also try to go to 360.autodesk.com and to upload new versions of your photos there. The projects that are already processed and containing these images will remain valid, as well as the survey points in these iamges. This may resolve the thumbnail issue.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience.
Best regards
Julien

Hello

The reason why the upload is failing when you delete the images and then try to reupload them is because you are actually trying to put a file into a folder that already contains a file with the same name. The delete operation in recap360 is logical to your project.

The process described previously seems to have worked for me:

Go to https://myhub.autodesk360.com/g/projects/drive/data/

Find your proj'ect's folder, it has the same name than your project

open the "Images" folder

switch to tiled view in the top right hand corner in order to indentify the missing thumbnails:

drag and drop the images that have their thumbnail missing, this will upload new versions for these images and re-trigger the thumbnail generation

wait few seconds and reload the page to be sure the missing thumbnails are there:

We are aware this is a workaround and not a valid solution.
We are trying to bring a solution to the thumbnail problem.
The fix for the image plane is currently under tests and will be released soon.

Regards
Julien

So there are 2 things here:
- there is an issue with the thumbnail generation. I posted a workaround for this in this thread. The issue has been adressed to appropriate team.
- there was an issue in our 3D viewer that prevented to view image plane when a previous image in the list has the thumbnail generation problem. This issue is now fixed and has been deployed today. Note this is not fixing the image plane viewing for the images that have the thumbnail generation problem, only for the following ones.

Hope this helps
Julien

Okay, but you are not understanding. I spoke with someone from tech support yesterday and they didn't understand.

I have tried to bulk upload 100 images (for example) using Recap360 Photo to 3D on both PC/Mac, Autodesk 360 web on both Mac/PC, AND using the Autodesk 360 Cloud app on both Mac/PC.

ALL options have the same result. Approximately 1/3 (33%) of the images have problems. I then go through and MANUALLY with paper and pen. I write down with image names that have problems. Then I rename the images locally to have an underscore at the end the name (_). Example: photo0001_.jpg. Then I upload the 33 images that have the problem. The result is 1/3 of those images have problems. So I make a list of the 11 images that have problems, rename them to photo0001__.jpg, and upload them. As you may have guessed 1/3 of those have problems. I have 4 images that have problems. I repeat this exercise that I should not have to do in 2016 computing until I have ALL of the images without problems.

Lets not even consider frustration, time wasted, and bandwidth (1000MB, 333MB, 111MB, 37MB, 11MB, 5MB).

And we keep getting the run around.

I perfectly understand everything you are saying here. And again we appologize for the inconvenience.

I validate the statement: Images with missing thumbnails will not avoid your project to compute well neither impact the result.

I do agree that some features will be difficult or impossible to use at post processing steps, like image stitching, registration, or viewing image plane. But this is not preventing a resubmit of your project (do not select again the images when resubmitting as this causes an upload error).

The engine never works with thumbnails and as you can see on 360.autodesk.com the images are well uploaded to the cloud.

I do understand this is frustrating and I see that indeed a lot are missing for your project.

I just tried the workaround I proposed with a project with missing thumbnails (10 over 50):
1. open the images folder in 360 with tiled thumbnails view:

2. aside open your local photo folder with the same aspect same ratio, this is easier to match the photos.
3. drag and drop only the photos that are missing thumbnails on the cloud
4. wait for all uploads to finish and reload the page.
5. check that all the thumbnail are present, if not repeat the operation for the missing ones. See on the screen shot below the image did not change names, same number of pictures, all thumbnails are generated:

6. go to ReCap360, open the 3D viewer for the project (I did not resubmit, just clicked the project's tile in ReCap360 home page):

And voilà.

This is from far the best option I can propose you by now. I can even do it for you if you share your project with me.

Hope this helps

Regards
Julien

I'll try that on a project I'm getting ready to upload. However, that last project I created CLEARLY did not calculate correctly with thumbnails missing. There is apparently something more that is being missed.
