Hello Sean,

Registration markers are availiable at 2 different steps of the process:
- pre procesing at registration step
- post processing at manual stitching step: accessible from the online 3D viewer when selecting a not yet stitched image:

These 2 workflows are slightly different and it's mainly due to how we force the user to set points onto not stitched images in the second case. There are also some little differences on what is happening under the hood. Registration step is mainly used to orient and scale the project.
In the right panel of the online 3D viewer you can:
- over your photos and check the alignement of each
- for those that are not well aligned, select and click on "unstitch" button
- once you are done with this filter select one in the not stitched bucket and click the "stitch" button
- you will see almost the same Interface than in Registration with the difference that your unstitched images will be on the left panel and there only, and the stitched image in the right one only.

I guess this will be easier for you to identify which are the images that need stitching.
Once done click on the "resubmit" button at the bottom.

Basically if some images are failing to get integrated you might want to use manual stitching. If it's just miss aligned photos then you will have unstitch them first.

A Locator (the 3D point) defined with only 2 Markers (the 2D image pixel, the mark you see in the User Interface) will almost always be ignored.
The color confidence circle around a marker should help you to visualize that (green is good). Here are some rules for enforcing efficiently the image stitching process:
- the markers position has to be really precise (3 pixels)
- a Locator should have at least 3 Markers, 4 is great.
- a non stitched or miss aligned photo should have 3 to 6 Markers (each matched following previous rules) for proper alignement refinement. Not need for all Markers matched to be on the same photos
- If you have several not stitched pictures showing the same feature, it usually gives good result to match markers between them and then to report the markers onto stitched images (2 or 3).

I hope you will find this useful.

Best regards

I am thoroughly convinced that the registration marks provide a good happy feeling that you are actually getting something done; but in reality they do nothing...

That can be true in some cases.

For example they are best used for adding survey points and coordinates, and if they are used for photo registration sometimes it cannot help because of the low overlap or low quality of the images.

If the photos aren't stitched automatically, in many cases there isn't much that can be done with the help of manual targets.

I need someone with Autodesk look at this project. There are two identical signs on two different sides of the building that Recap is confusing. There is PLENTY of overlap in the images. Registration marks everywhere.

Sent from my iPhone

A few, high-precision markers are typically more effective than many modest-integrity markers. Finding a set of two photos with two common markers that also shows the two unique signs may help, but putting in too many markers can inversely coerce the reconstruction.

I tried it first with corners of the building. Which has no effect. Then added more, which did not change to results at all. I did several iterations of this.

I've done this on several other project with no change...

Sent from my iPhone

I created two new projects with the sides of the building with the signs on separate projects. Worked fine with no registration marks. So as far as over lap goes, that is not the problem. I would really like to have this building in ONE project instead of two. First, it is cheaper to process this as one project. Second, I would have to bring the point clouds into recap and try to merge them.

Okay, how do I request technical support for Photo to 3d? This is a failure of the product which is really starting to wear on me. Because I go in the field an waste time taking photos and the product fails! On top of that, Autodesk is charging for it!
