I have several scan models that continue to keep failing on the mesh creation. I am looking for more suggestions on what to try to see if there is something that is causing them to fail. These scans were PTG Files and are structured as well as registered.

I have tried

Large Coordinates (location of my scans)

Updating Origin Location to middle of my scans.

Perspective mode and Orthographic mode

Changed Limit Box sizes to be within the 30m, have gone all the way down to 5m.

Clipped out only a small piece to see if that are would mesh.

Changed the Name of the Mesh

Changed Quality of the mesh.

Reimported entire project to see if something was corrupt.

Any other ideas on what may be causing the issue.

Thanks,

One thing to check: we have recently found an issue where mesh generation can fail if the scan names contain spaces or special (non-ASCII) characters. A fix is in the works.

I appreciate the information. I never would have though a space would cause an issue. I have attempted the mesh process again after removing any spaces or special characters, and was presented with a mesh failure again as a result.

Thanks,

To be clear - the problem is with the scan names, not just the mesh/project name. Did you rename the input scans, and recreate the project from them?

If so, and you still get failure, there may be another issue here. Can you share your project name and Autodesk account username? You can send me a private message. I can forward to our folks who may be able to see what's going on.

Indeed, this is not possible with the Beta service. Each mesh will have its own coordinate system.

It is usually recommended to keep the project in point cloud (ReCap) format if strict coordinates are required. I'm curious what you're trying to do that requires the mesh on specific coordinates?

So during the Beta service, the coordinates are not transferred over and the mesh created at the coordinates. I did not realize that was the case. The part that has me confused on this matter was this scan data to mesh in question was not the first set of data that had been processed.

I had a couple of other point clouds that were processed using the same steps I had performed and the mesh was created at the coordinates the point cloud were on. That was what I wanted and everything went great. Then I had the problem above that was fixed by removing the space in the scan name as suggested. So now this mesh is created but will only create at 0,0,0. which if that is what the program is supposed to do that is great, just wondering how I got meshs before (1 week ago) at my specified coordinates.

I am happy with the service either way just wondering how two different results on location of the mesh that is created.

thanks,

@Anonymous: Sorry for the short answer, but the thread is diverging a bit. It's possible I'm confused. There are two ways to create a mesh in the ReCap portfolio:

The ReCap Pro feature to create a mesh from point cloud ('Object Mesh'). This is in Beta and has no cost.

The Photo-to-3D service, available via the ReCap web app (recap360.autodesk.com) and ReMake. This service creates a mesh from a series of photographs and costs 5 cloud credits for high-resolution meshes.

Are you referring to #1 or #2? If #1, that sounds like a bug. Could you provide a screenshot?

Is this scan to mesh or Aerial projects in ReCap Photo? Spaces should be handled correctly. Would it be possible to provide me with the project name of your failed mesh so that I can check the backend logs for investigation?

Also regarding Cloud credits, you should be getting auto refunded for any failure or crash in the pipeline.
