topic Assigning Coordinates and Scale in ReCap Forum

I'm getting ready to assign coordinates to a point cloud in ReCap so the ReCap file will insert properly into our AutoCAD and Revit files at 0,0.

I'm curious if assigning those coordinates might affect the scale of the point cloud or will it just align the ReCap file properly?

I'll be doing this by looking in an AutoCAD drawing that contains the point cloud and the column grid we use as an Xref. All our Xrefs are based on this column grid. (Right now, the point cloud is manually lined up on this column grid in AutoCAD) I'll find 3 points in AutoCAD that I can locate in ReCap and get the AutoCAD Coordinates.

Then, I'll assign these coordinates to the same points in ReCap. I only want to align the point cloud. Not scale it. Technically, if I do this with precision, the scale shouldn't be affected, but I am just curious if it might be.

When I'm done, I hope to just be able to insert the point cloud at 0,0 in AutoCAD and use Origin to Origin in Revit. Am I on the right track?

Hi @LyleHardin,

There might be two ways for this:

One, you can do this by adding survey points in the registration tab. You will need to add at least 3 targets for the changes to take effect and your point cloud would not be scaled. It would only be aligned to best fit the values from the added coordinates.

And second, to set up a 0,0,0 to a specific point and orientate the model without scaling you should be also successful by using just the Update Origin tool.

Orientating the models should be also possible in AutoCad or Revit.
