Difference between ReCap and Scene software

Hello everyone,
I have the next question, what would be the difference between ReCap and Scene for point editing?

Aside from being a collaboration solution, working with multiple images and clearly dot cloud, what would be the characteristics that ReCap is a more robust solution of Scene?

Hi @Anonymous,

I would let others to chime in here, but in general ReCap is meant for working with point cloud data coming from various scanners and software packages, where scene has been optimized for working with data mainly from Faro scanners.

ReCap has also direct integration with Faro's terrestrial scanners and it's main goal is to prep your data for work with other Autodesk products like: AutoCad, Revit, Infraworks, Civil3d, Max, Inventor, etc...

Price !

Faro Scene is expensive and only bought by people who buy or own a Faro laserscanner.

ReCap is or Free or the Pro is included in your Autodesk Suite.

For users who do not have a scanner but want to use the lasercloud after that it has been made, this is very low-entry.

Thank you very much for your contributions. This week, Scene software released a new update, I will review it.

Clearly, the value differences and communication between Autodesk products that is wide make a big difference.

There is no difference at all except the bamboo shoots under the fingernails when working with Scene.

Hi @Anonymous,

The differences between Scene and Recap are :

- Like already said : Price

- Scene is much more configurable. But Recap's Auto-Registration mode is better and faster. So you don't have to configure anything.

- Manual Registration is much easier in Recap too .

- And Like @vidanom said, Scene is exclusively for FARO Scanner.

And so : Choose ReCap !

I'll throw my observations in here.

I like the 'bamboo shoots' comment about using SCENE. I too, find it cumbersome.

Some other forums discuss how much better SCENE is at registering the clouds. I've not seen much of a difference, but I've not directly compared the two.

SCENE is probably more powerful and has more options and features than ReCAP.

ReCAP for us, has the advantages of being inexpensive, allowing AutoCAD to access features of the point cloud such as pipe centerlines as well as faces and edges and corners. These features are only accessible through a point cloud that has been assembled with ReCAP.

I also like the ability to create scan 'regions' in ReCAP that are controllable (on/off) in AutoCAD and other Autodesk products.

We are going to be getting our own Faro scanner soon so we may pick up SCENE with it, but I imaging I'll probably stick with ReCAP just for the features it provides in other Autodesk products.

@LyleHardin - in the past, our scanner teams typically used SCENE (or Cyclone for Lecia equipment) to pre-process the point clouds as that's what they're trained on, licensed for, etc. Then it gets put into ReCap for the end-users as it's directly usable by AutoCAD, Navisworks, and other products. That means we only need to keep our own users up to date on the basics of one program and not several from different vendors (not to mention, different licenses).
