Hey

Just as a follow up on this subject.

It seems the point cloud is always in meters no matter what and ReCAP always translates or scales the cloud to international feet. I made a PDF that I distribute to end users or clients explaining how to insert the RCP into AutoCAD.

Not the best solution but it works. Yes we should all switch to meters I agree but until then the Autodesk ReCAP guys really need to address this.

US Survey Feet in Recap

Is there something I am missing to assure my .RCP/.RCS files are in US Survey feet? The data collection/processing is all done in US Survey feet and is exported from Cyclone usually as PTX or PTS. I bring into Recap to index and create RCP files fro use in Navisworks and Revit. After changing units in Recap and checking the data after indexing it appears to match the co-ordinates in Cyclone. However, when I bring into Navisworks, it is in INternational feet and doesn't lin-eup with the rest of the design elements in US feet. Any suggestions?

Hello @Anonymous,

Sorry to be late. Revit does not works with US Survey Feet, but in order to adjust de Point Cloud, you should modify the Point Cloud Scale and change it to 0.999998 (the conversion factor of 1 international foot to US survey foot).

Here is some reference:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture-forum/point-cloud-scale/m-p/7282373/highlight/true#M158673

But I think that the perfect solution would be that USA get rid off US Survey Feet, and then go Metric

Thank you for participating in our Community! I just want to let you know that 'units' in ReCap are just for display inside that application. I was wondering if the suggestion that @samuelsanf provided work for you?

If so, please click Accept as Solution on the posts that helped you so others in the community can find them easily.

thank you samuelsanf,

I have used the scaling in navisworks to solve this problem, but was hoping there was a cleaner solution. This is not always an option and doesn't always translate when collaborating with others. Thank you for verifying this!

As far as doing away with the US foot - that would be fantastic! It is a nuisance!
