Fatal Error occurs when entering XREF command in AntoCAD LT 2013

I encountered a fatal error message right after entering the XREF command for all files (AutoCAD 2013 LT version). The file closes even without popping up the xref window for selecting files to reference in. The files are not damaged because I can reopen the files and see everything is intact. For some reason the program just cannot execute the XREF command.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall the AutoCAD LT 2013 program (a purchased disk), but the problem remains, even with a blank file (new file) after entering "XREF". Then I followed the instructions on Autodesk trouble shooting website to download AutoCAD LT 2013 Service Pack 2, however, the problem still remains.

Background history:

I purchased a 2013 LT disk 10 years ago and used it until I subscribed 2022 LT version. However, I found out I could not use 2022, even 2020 and 2019 subscribed versions because I encountered a screen re-calibrate problem (screen keeps jumping up and down constantly due to lack of compatible built-in graphic card). I didn't renew after the 2022 subscription was expired in December 2022 and returned to use the purchased disk 2013 LT. Since then, it has been running great until 3/7/2023 when I got the fatal error message by entering XREF command for all files.

I reported to Autodesk in the pop-out window of the error message and the error report number is 701380286. Below are the images of the error messages. Thank you so much for helping! -Gloria

That 2022-ish issue is (and for you, was) a simple fix with a change of a system variable as explained here https://www.landfx.com/kb/autocad-fxcad/view/item/4294-jumpy-status-bar.html#:~:text=If%20your%20Model%20and%20Layout%20tabs%20are%20jumping%20or%20moving,from%20moving%20up%20and%20down.

A Windows 10 update broke it most likely: LT2013 was not designed for newer operating systems. Installing the latest updates for your old software may help https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-lt/troubleshooting/caas/downloads/content/autocad-lt-2013-service-pack-2.html

Thank you for those solution options.

Regarding 2022 issue, my computer is for gaming (ROG Strix G731GU_G731GU) and the card is GTX1660, which is not approved by Autodesk. But I will try the link you provided.

Regarding Windows 11, I tried to change the setting and ran a test for AutoCAD 13 LT on Windows 7, it didn't work. My AutoCAD 13 LT worked perfectly on Windows 10. I will try the links you provided.

Windows 10:
There are only options for Windows 8 and 7. Both don't work. How do I run the program on Windows 10 since there is no such option in the setting? Thanks.

Hi Pendean, My AutoCAD 2013 LT program ran on Windows 11 just fine since Windows 11 was released last year until two days ago. Do you think the XREF fatal error is because of the Windows 11? Other CAD commands works just fine; it is only the XREF command that crashes. Thank you for your advice!

@gloria.vis Win11 (and Win10 at some point) updates break old AutoCAD software slowly or fully over time judging by all of you older software users running in unsupported operating systems. This exact forum alone probably has dozens of such posts, this forum website has 1000s of such posts over the decades.

You are likely fighting a losing battle.
