hi, I have a problem with importing into powershape 2024, when I import an.igs file from other CADs at the end of the powershape import it creates a set of solids while in reality I need nurbs surfaces, if I transform the solids into powersurfaces I get surfaces all in pieces while they should have been entire surfaces how can I solve the problem I remember that this problem has been happening for about two months
Thank you andrea

Hello!

Could you give some advise/help which kind IGES export settings should be used in PowerShape that the IGES files could be imported as "watertight" model to Fusion360? Because I have got some exported files from PowerShape and the models have been separate surfaces which I couldn't stitch as a solid model (tried different stitching tolerances on Fusion but didn't help).

Thank's!

-Juha A.

ok I understand what the problem is tomorrow I'll do some tests on my PC with powershape and fusion then I'll let you know... in the meantime you could try to convert your model into a solid with powershape then export it in step format (. stp) and import it into fusion in the meantime I'll do some tests .....

greetings from andrea

ok I did some tests with surface files created with powershape and then exported to fusion as solids I understood that to use the models created with powershape within fusion you need to transform them into solids from powershape (better closed or if not possible open but not too complicated) then export them in step format (.stp extension) then from fusion open --- external file --- they are imported into the work area as bodies then it is possible to perform the various fusion processes such as fillets, holes and various.

Hi! Thank you for your effort! Our moldmaking partner is using Powershape and sometimes we will send modified product files among ourselves. We have now managed to get successfully one product file (as "watertight") from them in step format. With one model was some difficulties to get all surfaces stitched together, I don't know is it something related to stp export settings on Powershape?

there are no other settings in saving a step file, the source of the problem is the model that is generated by your partner, surely using powershape creates hybrid models that is formed by surfaces and solids that apparently seem closed but in fact are not (powershape works with open and closed models without any problem) so it is necessary that your external mold maker sends you better files, it is necessary that inside powershape they are actually closed solids so that the step saving is suitable for fusion, to help you I can give some advice to your partner to create better solids (obviously it is necessary to do many tests to find the best setting)
1) from these images some parameters to set on powershape

after making these settings you can try to save the model in .step and then import it into fusion, I would like to point out that exchanging files between different cad systems is always problematic especially with powershape being a hybrid modeler ....

if possible send me an image of the model with problems to evaluate what to do obviously without having problems with company secrets I recommend ...

Hi!

Thank you for your advice! Yes, actually it's no surprise that the file conversions between different cad systems will cause some headaches ;). Over the years it has been proven several times. But as you said probably there is some modelling issues with the original file and it won't export as a "watertight" model. Actually our partner has sent the product file as two separate files because they couldn't export those as a complete model and of course I can't stitch those together. Stl format will work, but as we know the stl model is not that useful for further modelling purposes. Unfortunately I can't send you any pictures of it, because they are under company secrets.
