How to make a complete backup of all settings in powermill.

I don't know if there is really a way to "backup" your settings, but most of the settings that you are accustomed to should be set in your pmuser.mac. If you need to go back to your original settings, you can run the pmuser.mac again.

if you have custom ribbon tabs set up you're able to export those to an xml file. If you have certain toolpath settings you want loaded with particular toolpaths, you can set those and close the toolpath (dont calculate it) then save that as a template strategy. Everything else can be done via the startup macro like @cfastNJWK6 said

Hi @sbo

You can navigate to C:\Users\XX_UserNameXX\AppData\Local\Autodesk\PowerMill

There are files in there that get overwritten when you make environment changes in PowerMill. The file that gets read when launching the software is name powermill_system_vars.pmlpar. You can make a backup of the original as well as the others there.

I personally would rather use a pmuser.mac to set these like @cfastNJWK6 mentioned so that my system opens up the same every time. Also, like @TK.421 showed, I create a backup of my ribbon whenever I make changes to it....just in case.

Lastly, place all of you PowerMill files (saved strategies, macro's, templates, posts, etc.....)in one location and not scattered about locally or within a server. Makes things easier to transfer down the road if you upgrade to a new computer.

@ChristopherMarion thanks for the info on the AppData file, i didnt know that.

@sbo to echo Chris, file organization and management is important and will make your life easier. below is my file structure. I keep everything in my pmill4 folder and that gets backed up to GitHub so i never have to sweat getting a new computer or accidentally deleting something or whatever.
