powermill newbie unable to fix toolpath issue.

Hi everyone!

I'm a new PowerMill user and have recently learned how to create rotary toolpaths successfully. However, I'm encountering an issue with the toolpath when working with a curved model. There is a jump in the toolpath and the bit ends up going inside the wood. I've attached a screenshot of the toolpath for reference.

Can anyone provide me with some pointers on how to tackle this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

It could be because your links are set to skim but without seeing the entire project it would be hard to tell what the issue is. Can you upload the project? Or can you check your links for 1st choice is not set to skim and your constraint value is set to a high value?

Hi @iamcdn79,

I tried the solution you suggested by changing the links setting to circular arc and reducing the distance value to 1, but unfortunately, the issue still persists.

To investigate further, I have uploaded the project file. Could you please review it and provide me with more insights and possible solutions? Thank you for your time and effort on this matter.

I've tried different settings for rotary finishing and also tried creating a line projection finishing toolpath and it always fails in the same area of the model. It could be an issue with your stl model, can you try using a different format instead of stl like Parasolid or igs?

Hi @iamcdn79 Looks like there is a way to create rotary toolpath for this type of curved model and I found a tutorial in Spanish. Yet my problem is not solved as I don't understand Spanish fully.

Yes, that is curve projection finishing. Here is the project that got the results that you wanted.
