I'm running into an error in some models in Revit 2018.3 when exporting points. It throws the Object reference not set to an instance of an object error message similar to what was discussed in this thread: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/point-layout-forum/object-reference-not-set-to-an-instance-of-an-object/m-p/5693235#M400

However none of the items mentioned in the previously mentioned thread have resolved the issue. We have updated Revit, cleared out all app data, and restarted Revit and the Computer.

This is only happening with certain files, not all files, but I'm not sure why. The attached model is not working on my computer.

Hmm, I was able to export 1112 points(9 Duplicates cleared up) with no errors other than central file not being accessible to update after the export, which is expected in this case.

Double check your shared parameter file (Under manage Ribbon) is available and not read-only, can just create a temporary local one as well. Try doing the Duplicates function on the Point layout Ribbon and clear up those duplicates, see if any errors occur from that.

Thanks,

I cleared the duplicates, and double checked the shared parameter file is available and not set to read only, and it's still throwing the same error. I even created a new shared parameter file on my desktop and still the same issue. I exported the error report to see if there was anything there, but it only has the error message, it doesn't specify any elements or anything else:

Error messageElements

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Will the Manage Points screen open for you?

Try opening the Settings screen from Point Layout Ribbon, hit Save so it closes, and then try to get to the Export screen again.

Let me know on those two.

The manage points window opens and works as you would expect including showing, filtering and selecting points. I also opened the settings button in the APL window, and saved it. It still throws the same error after selecting export before the window launches. The import window is working just not the export with this one file.

Unfortunately I still cannot reproduce this in any way.

One other thing to try is going into your worksets manager, checking the Show boxes for Families and Project Standards, selecting everything, and setting them to editable, then try again. Be sure to reset as is appropriate afterwards.

I did notice that some of your families with nested points needed fixing up, under Plumbing fixtures, 3 need nesting and one needs cleanup. Since there are only 5 families there, easiest to just step through same steps for each.

1. Edit the family

2. On APL ribbon -> Family Tools panel select Point Nesting

3. On APL ribbon -> Family Tools panel select Cleanup

4. Load and Close the family

5. Choose Overwrite the existing version

Once done with all 4, Check for Duplicates again, you'll probably have some.

See if you can export points from another computer? Maybe try with a detached local version as well.

Using a different Machine fixed it. I'm not sure why only this file doesn't work on my primary workstation, but this resolved it.

Thanks for your help!
