I have accessed the user guide offered within Civil 3D software. It says 2016. Nothing new since then?

The user guide is a list of functions. Is there a workflow document that might put some of these in order of a possible project scenario.

Also, who is physically doing the work of walking the site and marking point locations? Is this a Licensed Land Surveyor, a contractor's employee or someone else?

I understand traditional survey staking. Is this a plausible scenario: The rod person is walking a structure where a floor is going to be poured. They mark where certain voids need to be and then other contractor personnel build frames that keep concrete from filling voids where equipment is to be placed? Are they also marking locations the be drilled after concrete is in place? Do you use it in the yard to mark equipment outside a building?

Sorry for the rookie questions,

Hey Tim, welcome to the APL forums.

No newer documentation, though I do list all new functionality each year in the Whats new posts you will find here.

This will be a bit overwhelming, but highly suggest reviewing some of the material to be found here: https://www.autodesk.com/autodesk-university/search?query=Point+Layout

And of course if you google Point Layout workflows, there are lots of videos available to watch.

Workflows are trade, design software, and goal dependent, so there is no master list of expected workflows to use.

APL is the office side of things, so when you query who is doing the physical work, I assume you actually mean out in the field, which is again dependent on usage, though the overall goal is to allow anyone to be trained to do Layout work in the field or existing location collection (e.g. for a retrofit) , but project control points should always be placed by a licensed surveyor.

"I understand traditional survey staking. Is this a plausible scenario: The rod person is walking a structure where a floor is going to be poured. They mark where certain voids need to be and then other contractor personnel build frames that keep concrete from filling voids where equipment is to be placed? Are they also marking locations the be drilled after concrete is in place? Do you use it in the yard to mark equipment outside a building?"

Yes, definitely, all of the above.

Thanks,
