topic Grid Offset Report / Compare Tool in Point Layout Forum

What is the preferred method of comparing model elements/points (lets say column line intersections) to as-built field points (lets say center of anchor bolts)?

I've looked into the grid offset report and to be honest i'm not entirely sure what it is reporting. The .xml file it spits out has the APL #, Description, Grid (empty), Distance, Grid (empty), Distance. Is it only reporting the distance from the closest grid intersection? Are you only supposed to use two grid lines per report? How do you get the grid letter/number to populate in the report? Can the report be formatted in inches rather than feet?

Also looked at the compare tool but it seems that it would require us to have APL points set at each column intersection as well as collect as-built points (presumably with different numbering scheme to avoid duplicates) and then use some similarity to compare them.

Last - has anyone played around with APL in dynamo for C3D? Wondering if it could be used to compare as-built points (lets say A-1) to column lines A and 1?

Thanks!

Re: Grid Offset Report / Compare Tool

Grid report does report out closest grid intersection for each point, tends to be used for quick navigation out on the jobsite.

Compare tool is the right way to go for checking as built vs model points, the key is to keep the numbers the same, prefix (or lack there of) is what would change between model and field.

Most common workflow would be to set all the model points, send them to the field for stakeout( e.g. point #3000 is staked and stored as STK3000) , bring those back to the office and use compare tool to see any deviations between the two.

No experience with Dynamo so I can't be much help there.

Let me know if you want more in depth response on anything specific.

Thanks,
