topic 64 Bit ObjectARX program is even slower than 32 Bit ObjectARX program??? in ObjectARX Forum

I finally got my 64 Bit ObjectARX program running on AutoCAD 2016 but the testings on its speed seems to make no sense to me: 64 Bit ObjectARX program is even slower than 32 Bit ObjectARX program.

The reason why we want to build 64 Bit ObjectARX on AutoCAD 2016 is because we feel that our program may run fast under 64 bit OS. But the reality is not after I compared our 64 Bit ObjectARX program with our previous 32 Bit program. We ran through the stress analysis for a relatively large structure on our 64 Bit program and 32 Bit program. The 32 Bit program got quick results, faster than 64 Bit program. For 64 Bit program we took 1 hour 42 mins; for 32 Bit program we took 1 hour 8 mins. This is very shock results. The 64 Bit program didn't take so-called advantages on larger memory address space. Instead it ran even slower than 32 Bit program. What's reason behind this contradictory fact about the advantage of 64 Bit ObjectARX? Could some one possibly give some clues? My 32 Bit ObjectARX program runs on AutoCAD 2007 and my 64 Bit ObjectARX program runs on AutoCAD 2016.

Thanks in advance

You must have run the performance comparison on two different machines - one with 32bit and one with 64bit Windows. Are you sure these machines have comparable hardware?

Have you tried to compare the performance between AutoCAD 2016 32bit and 64bit directly? Maybe it is not 64/32bit but the AutoCAD version that makes the difference.

I think you can't generally say that 64bit programs run faster than 32bit. It is true, that they can address more memory directly. But if your application isn't that memory hungry, you won't have any advantage from that.
