Regarding C# and AutoCAD, I don’t think you will find many books. There are some videos, explore this and related offerings:

http://download.autodesk.com/media/adn/DevTV_Introduction_to_AutoCAD._NET_Programming/

A ‘Getting Started’ series can be found here:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=16459234

Articles and discussions, though, are rather plentiful.

http://adndevblog.typepad.com/autocad/
http://through-the-interface.typepad.com/through_the_interface/
http://www.theswamp.org/
http://drive-cad-with-code.blogspot.com/
http://www.acadnetwork.com/
http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?69-.NET-ObjectARX-amp-VBA

Plus, ask questions in this forum. What areas of AutoCAD development pertain most to your work?

Thank you for responding! I am in the fire protection industry. I have a degree in computer science (got that 16 years ago now 😲) so i spent several years learning OOP with C++. Im a little rusty but its all coming back fairly quickly.
What im looking to do is mostly manipulating objects (lines, polylines, blocks, etc), using selection sets, simple stuff like that. My biggest problem so far has been figuring out how to get started with the project. I downloaded visual studio, the acad library or dll pack (or something like that), but thata about where im stuck. Once i figure out how to run a c# program from within an acad drawing i will feel much better. Thats where Im struggling, embarassed to say.....
