Hey all!

I'm new to Navisworks (I was using Inventor at another company). I found the setting to enable centerline measurement, but the centerline measurement only works for certain parts. Works on other trades, but not my own stuff. Just curious if there is a setting that needs to be enabled on the software side when doing an export to NWC. Any help is appreciated.

Using Fabrication CAD MEP

Hello @Anonymous

Thank you for your post and welcome!

I appreciate the screen shot you sent, that is always helpful for troubleshooting.

What version/year of Navisworks are your using Freedom, Manage, Simulate?

Using your Autodesk Desktop Application, can you verify that you are using the most up to date version?

Can you send me screenshot of what you expect to see, like your previous regarding the error you are seeing?

If you select both objects and choose Shortest Distance, do you get the results you are expecting?

Navisworks Manage 64bit, Version 142.1311.03

Update 2, Built January 16 2017

Looking at the update software it doesn't appear as though there are any updates for Manage.

What I would like is to have a center to center measurement. The pipe on the left was selected, then the right, and Shortest distance was selected. The "CL" icon only shows on the left. Not sure if it has anything to do with the way Autodesk Fabrication CAD MEP authors the content for the NWC export. I would like to get a CL measurement between the two. Not sure if it has to do with the Export to NWC from CAD MEP.

Thanks, Austin

Hi @Anonymous

Thank you for your reply and that information!

I touched base with my experts and they indicated that what you are seeing is expected behavior. The center-line symbol should only appear when you dimension off of RVM (SmartPlant Review) or DGN (MicroStation) files.

You are not missing any settings and you are doing everything correctly from what I can tell.

This is what I did to get the center-line measurement from an example model, I hid the two elbows, selected the center-line node of both pipes and used the dimension for my center-line, will this method work for you?

I also think that your suggestion/question would be a good candidate for our product feedback platform. If you like you can submit this form and you can send your idea to Autodesk for further review and may be implemented in the future.
