There are two posts for importing C3d material to Navisworks,

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Navisworks/Civil-3D-Surface-Materials/m-p/2752714/highlight/true#M772

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Navisworks/Navisworks-Materials/m-p/2902952/highlight/true#M1241

I carefully followed the instructions and found the same result as was found in the 2011 release; Navisworks assigns it's own surface material. The properties AutoCAD tab displays the correct material and options DWG/DXF material search paths are the same as displayed in C3D options/file/texture maps search path; both Navis 2012 and C3D 2012 are installed on the same machine.
