Is there a way to get the Appearance Profiler to "run" automatically when the NWF file is opened? Or am I looking at an API program?

Hello. There is currently no way to force an appearance profile to automatically load. You can save a profile and transmit the saved file along with your model, but it will not force a load of the profile when a model is opened.

I am unsure if this can be accomplished with the API, but it may be. I would as you log this as an enhancement request with our developers directly. You can do so here:

I have recently installed Manage 2019 hoping that this issue of the Appearance Profiler not getting written to the file just like Sets or Saved Views. I am pretty devastated to see that nothing has been done seeing this was first requested back in 2011.

Do the developers not listen to the users requests?

Apparently they don't listent to requests. There are so many small features that would make Navisworks so much better, but they don't want to implement. In the meantime, there are growing alternate solutions to perform the functions Navisworks does and then some.

Navisworks 2023 now includes this ability:
-ExecuteAddInPlugin AutoAppearanceLoader.Navisworks <appearance.dat>

The following will produce the nwd with the appearance profiler settings in 'appearance.dat' applied to the scene
Roamer.exe -OpenFile <input.nwf> -ExecuteAddInPlugin AutoAppearanceLoader.Navisworks <appearance.dat> -SaveFile <out.nwd> -Exit

ok, good to know but.... is it an actual plugin? where to dowwnload and install? not very clear for me.

What steps to take within navisworks and can I use several appearance profiles for the different projects?

Or is this plugin always refering to the same DAT file?

It is shipped with Navisworks, nothing additional to install. Nothing to do when you are in Navisworks, this is simply for when launching from the command line. You can integrate it as part of you file batching process if you use that, or create your own bat files or any other method that calls roamer.exe
You would replace [appearance.dat] with the path and name of the dat file you want to have applied, so yes you can use different ones for different projects.
