Hi!

I'm using Navisworks (mostly simulate) 2015 to coordinate a fairly big amount of models. To make things easier to find I've made several small nwd-models, each containing a large amount of .nwc- or .dwg-models, and the appended them all into a big Navis model.

My problem is, every time I add a new model, it appears in all my saved viewpoints (which I don't want to) and I the have to go through all the viewpoints, hide the new models I don't want in them, and update the views.
This is a big problem, since I add more models every day, and I have over a 100 viewpoints saved.

I have the settings for both "Save hide/Required attributes" and "override appearance" checked, but I don't Think any of them have anything to do with this problem. So what am I doing wrong? Anyone else who has this problem?

Sincerely,

Stina

If most or all of your viewpoints do not have other overrides, and the items should be hidden in all viewpoints, you should UN select these settings and after appending, then hide.

If you then create a new viewpoint, it should not remember overrides, so it should be left hidden.

To get rid of the overrides in viewpoints, export them to XML, delete them

then make everything hidden or unhidden like you want it to be in all viewpoints. Create a new Home view on the viewcube.

Set the settings right (UNselect them)

Save close and restart Navisworks

and then import the Viewpoints XML. Because overrides cannot be saved in the XML, they will have none anymore.

Redlining and Clipping is saved.

Thanks, that did solve the problem somehow. It seams to be an unnecessarily hard way to go, but it's still a lot easier than update all the viewpoints one by one!

On the other hand, when I try this, all of the old viewpoints get the same selections of hidden/unhidden objects when I uncheck and then check the option for "Hide/required" attributes. Maybe I did something wrong, or we misunderstood each other. This solution fixes one thing, but creates more problems.

Thank you for your Forum Post,

There is a way to update your Viewpoint with your new hidden elements.
However, the program will not auto-hide things in a previously saved viewpoint, once a new model is appended.

You need to understand how the Viewpoint save the data:

When you don’t have the “Save Hide/Required Attributes” & “Override Appearance” boxes enabled, Navisworks will save with the Viewpoint only the coordinates of the camera. No other settings will be saved. For that reason, you will always see the model with its current visibility settings, no matter what viewpoint you activate.

On the other hand, when those 2 options are enabled, each viewpoint will save the visibility settings (overrides and hidden objects) at that time within it. It saves the settings based on the GUID of the affected elements.

But once you add a new model, that is new content (new GUIDs) and its settings will not be included in the already saved views. You would need to save new views or update the existing ones to include any new hidden elements (since they have new GUIDs).

This is by design.

Returning to your original question.
The best way to avoid re-creating the Views is to make a selection of all items you want to hide, go into each viewpoint, hide them and “update” the Viewpoints. (find the update option when you right click on a Saved Viewpoint)

Unfortunately, you still need to go through each of them.

I am sorry for its limitations, but I hope these explanations will help you better understand the functionality.

Please let em know if you have any other questions,

Regards,

Sinziana
