How to get a list of the steel with Navisworks Manage 2017

Hello All,

Somebody sent me a NWC file of a building so I can see all the steel involve. Now, I only had Navisworks Freedom and it didn't work. I've installed the free manage version for 30 days to see if I could open it with it. Yes, it did the trick. You certainly saw that I'm not a Navisworks expert by now.

Now, I need to make a list of all the things that are related to the steel. How do I create such a list if it's possible to do it?

I'm in a rush so I would appreciate a quick reply from you guys. I really need your help.

There are quantification tools in Navisworks Manage, but they take some time to set up. Thankfully they are building-oriented to start with so you aren't starting from scratch.

Maybe someone will come along and volunteer to set up the catalog/etc. for you. If not you may want to check in one of the Revit boards for similar assistance.

Navisworks freedom can open only NWD files.

In Navisworks Manage:

use the Find Items tool to write the appropriate search criteria that are related to the steel then click Find All button.
click the Selection Inspector tool to list all selected items then export list to CSV file

I was already going through this option with this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ck1k8n3iUzQ found on Youtube. As I said earlier, I'm not working with Navisworks so I'm a completely new beginner. After viewing this video, I think this is just insane to think that a green one like me could do this. Is there another way to get the IFC file from the NWC file I received?

Can't seem to make anything happen. Only exporting text. No quantity, no length, etc.

My question still remain: Can we get an IFC file from a NWC Navisworks file?

No. NWC/NWD are "end point" file formats intended for coordination rather than translation to other formats. At this point I'd suggest going back to whoever provided the NWC file and get them to do the take-off for you using the original software (which is always my first recommendation).
