Hi,

I have attached a test model that you can try yourself. It seems that AutoCAD has the ability to assign multiple materials to the same object (not an expert on AutoCAD). If you select "Realistic" visual style in AutoCAD the color is the same as the one in Navisworks, but the color exposed in the API is the one from "Conceptual" visual style. Hopefully this is a clue to the problem.

/Elias

Hi,

When accessing ModelItem color via item.Geometry.PermanentColor, the exposed color is not the same as in Navisworks viewer.

See attached screenshots for reference.

Why is this and how can it be solved?

Best regards,

Elias Furenhed

Hi,

Actually the pipe in the two pictures are the same, just that in the first picture there is a floor "cutting" the pipe.

I have attached a picture of the material properties for said pipe from Navisworks. What can be read there is that the expected color is green, which is what comes when exporting. But in Navis the pipe is pink. So I guess the exported color is not wrong, but Navis is showing the object differently for some reason. I would like to export the object so that it looks the same as in Navis, is that possible?

/Elias

I grabbed one slide out from the training PPT I produced. It might have explained this behavior.

Xiaodong, thanks for your reply.

The colors are imported as is from file, so what can then be overriding them? There has been no user interaction in between.

Does Navisworks automatically override colors somehow?

/Elias

Sir,

What file type are you opening? it is a nwd or some other file type? the reason I'm asking is because the color behaviour depends a bit on that.

I believe the original file comes from AutoCAD because in the Material tab the material name says "AutoCAD Color index 110". I don't have the original file.

/Elias

hi again, it is not so easy to figure out what is happening. one possibility I suppose is that there is some issue with your graphics driver - but if you get the same unexpected color behavior on multiple PCs with different types of graphics card then that is clearly not the case.

Hi Elias,

Navisworks does not override anything automatically. I doubt this file has been overridden by the user in one specific step. if you could find the source file, and save it once again and the problem can reproduce, please send us a copy. Do not send any confidential information.

Hi,

Thank you for the dataset. it seems an issue of product as you can find properties of the first object tells the color is 'Autodesk color Index 7' which means (1,1,1). ModelGeometry.OriginalColor tells the same value. While the color looks like green, which should be (0,1,0). So i would think API simply keeps consistent to the property value. it is product that translated to the wrong value.

I logged a change request in our internal tracking system: NW-53837
