How to implement FileProtocolPlugin.PutFile?

I've successfully implemented the GetFile and GetFileDirect methods of the FileProtocolPlugin but I can't seem to figure out how to get Navisworks to call my implementation for PutFile (or WriteFile for direct). There doesn't seem to be much documentation around what it takes to implement this plugin feature.

I'm using the FileProtocolPlugin base class to write my own plugin to open and save files from the cloud. The documentation says that the PutFile method "Uploads a file to a remote URI." I can't figure out how to get Navisworks to call the PutFile method of my plugin though. Is there any additional documentation for how to use the FileProtocolPlugin?

I checked with the Autodesk Navisworks Engineering team regarding this issue.

I received the below response from the Engineering team.

"NW probably just won't call this. It can't really "save to the cloud".

Why does this exist with the documentation saying what it does if it doesn’t actually do what it says?
