Well in either case, reasoning up and down, there has to be some function in options to turn it static as i had it before, i checked everything in software, so perhaps maybe .ini or other files have it in not sure.

Hello,

Since early days of Mudbox i had no problem with image plane, but in 2018 version, image plane moves along with Camera 2d pan movement. Even if i change hotkeys to something else it will still move image plane along the camera movement changes, which ruins the point, since the image plane has to be static and not moving. I checked all possible settings but couldnt find where to mark it as static, anyone has idea?

Are you sure it wasn't that way all the time? If I remember correctly image plane was always moving together with the camera when you did 2d pan. I just checked Mudbox 2017 and it is working that way there. In which Mudbox version did you see a different behavior?

In every Mudbox since 2009 Image plane did not move while camera is being pan moved at least on my side. Dont understand why would it be in the first place, as object is obstracting the view of portion of image plane one needs to move model away somethimes to see whole concept art, so if its moving along the model, its just nearly impossible or at least very annoying to see that portion of concept art you want to see, thats why it makes totaly more sense if it is fixed on Mudbox display screen, rather than moving left and right.

One of the design decisions behind the image plane and the 2d camera manipulations was that once the user aligns an image with a 3d scene, they should still be able to navigate (like zoom into some details) without breaking the relationship between the image plane and the 3d scene. So all the 2d camera manipulations were moving the image plane as well. This is the way how it worked in Mudbox from the beginning. I only checked Mudbox 2017, but I'm pretty sure all the previous version were behaving the same way.

Sorry, I don't think what you want is possible. I've checked the details on this, and there is no preference or any setting which would make it possible to fix the image plane. I've also checked the development history, and this is something which works the same way since the initial release of Mudbox ten years ago (only the first beta version had the image plane fixed to the screen).

So are you saying i was using Mdbx version with that bug since early release until 2016? If so that is is one of the rare and usefull bugs i have seen, and not to mention to be extremely wierd to not be spotted out by at least someone else than myself.

Hi!

I just wanted to confirm, in Mudbox 2011 the Image Plane is connected to camera and moving with camera, i can't remember that it ever worked different.

Mudbox 2011:

"An image plane is a 2D object (plane) attached to the viewing camera"

Maybe you used a different tool or imported a static plane from a Maya Scene.

Oh absolutely not, its the image plane 100%. So then the only conclusion i could get is that in previous Mdbx versions by default when you are moving around you are moving camera but not image plane, and in current version its both sync in movement together. Perhaps forced, while in previous versions it was possible to de-link them trough hotkeys.

older Mdbx versions on first upper picture, and the lower one is new Mdbx. Moved camera with alt + lckick+rclick to right side. No idea why would anyone want to have second option since it clearly blocks the refernce part you want to see on picture.

Thanks to the screen shots I think I know what is happening. On the first shot you were moving the camera, while on the second image you just applied a 2d pan to the camera. These are two very different functions. The default hotkey for camera movement is alt+MMB, 2d camera movement is ctrl+alt+MMB. In the hotkey editor you can find these with the names "Pan" and "Camera 2D Pan". I thought you talk about the 2d camera manipulations. The idea behind these functions is that they leave the camera position in the 3d space intact, and only affect which part of the camera image you actually see in the viewport. So for example if you have a very high resolution detailed stencil or image plane, and you want to focus on some specific area, you can use the 2d camera manipulations to close on that area without breaking the model-stencil relationship.
