Thank you! Is it possible in your opinion import the 3D model of the insert besides the 3D model of the part?

Thank you

Nicola Lucatello

Hello, i use Moldflow Insight 2013 and i would like to know if there is the possibility to import the entire mould in a project, instead of the only part. I would like to do this because the mould that i'm using has an insert made from a different material than the mould. In order to better predict the fill, i would like to import all the .sldasm or .step files of the mould that already have the cooling cuircuit inside. Is it possibile?

Thank you

Nicola

Hi

You can try that in Moldflow 2015 / 2016 but not in 2013

suggest to mesh the part in 2013 and assign the property of insert material and perform the analysis

In case of cooling analysis, you can try to run Cool(FEM) with entire mold or by creating mold block

Thank you! Could you explain me how can i do it? In the project file there is the fixed meshed part with the coolant sistem. Now i can import in the same project the insert step file. How can i position the insert in the proper place in contact with the part?Once i've imported the insert, i have to remesh all(insert and part) with dual domain mesh of the same size? It's the first time that i use inserts, so i don't know very well how to do it. Could you tell me the flowchart to follow?

Thank you very much

Nicola

Hi

import the insert into a new study and mesh it

Add this meshed insert study to the existing study - part with cooling system

Use move command and select the insert elements

for measuring distance: select a reference point from insert and select the same reference point in part

(If it's a circular insert, create a center point in insert and center point where insert need to be placed in component and move the inserts by using reference of these center points)

insert elements and part elements need to be of same edge length... it can vary

This won't affect solution accuracy, so no need to remesh the part and insert again
