The asterisk after a material trade name within Moldflow's material database signifies that material will be phased out in the next release.

I need a memory refresh, so please enlighten me again about the meaning of the "*"-asterisk that shows up after a certain few materials' trade names in the MOLDFLOW material database. Thanks!

Re: MOLDFLOW material properties being REMOVED...WHY?!

Kristen,

As I'm sure you saw what prabu.Karunakaran (Enthusiast) posted, I am similarly concerned with existing materials data being eliminated from future MOLDFLOW database versions, especially if *-marked materials are in use today!

First, I'd ask "WHY are these material datasets being removed?" Autodesk should provide AMPLE notiification "ahead of removal time/version" as to the reason for each material's removal from the MOLDFLOW database.

Second, if the removal reason IS "Material is obsolete and no longer manufactured", then is there a way for Autodesk MOLDFLOW Technical Experts in material data characterization to recommend reasonable alternative material datasets that the user might consider for future simulations.

Third, if "NOT OBSOLETE, no longer manufactured" then Autodesk should provide a technical procedure describing exactly how a user might extract the respective material data records from the current data base and enter them as User-Defined material datasets in the versions where removed, especially if these *-marked materials are currently being used in "actual" plastic part designs.

Penny for anyone other user's thoughts regarding this topic????

Regards, Ron White
