Hmm, maybe some graphics card issue? Did you update it to most latest drivers?

Do you use MM 3.5? You may try 3.3 instead. 3.3 is more robust on graphics.

Just some things which would be interesting:

Could you accept that black result and go to SELECT. Now do some partial selection and hit G on your keyboard. This should expand the selection to the groups hit by the selection. Is the resulting selection the whole bunny or just some part of it?

You may activate EnableBasicRendering in Preferences and restart MM. Does GenerateFaceGroups work in that mode?

- If you switch the mesh color mode to VertexColor after accepting that black result: Is the color grey again?

Whenever I use Generate Face Groups, the object just shows up in black. It is like this for all objects, no matter the slider position. I have attached a picture of the bunny with the default settings.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Unfortunately your image is missing.

I never saw a grouping result showing up black...Which Shader material do you use? Try the default shader (next to the Plus)

Please check if you've set the right MeshColorMode (should be at GroupColor to see groups) in Preferences

or

via Space key to open the Hotbox. In its Color section activate the righthand button showing the sphere with a green region.

Thanks for the suggestions! I was not using any shader materials. I open meshmixer, import the bunny, and immediately go to generate face groups. I did add the default shader and checked that group color was selected. Unfortunately, the bunny still shows up black with no color groups.

I re-attached the image below in the text body this time. Hopefully it works!

Basic Rendering did the trick!!!! I also tested your other suggestions as well.

MM 3.3 did not seem to make a difference

Selecting and hitting G results in selecting only part of the bunny

Selecting Vertex Color does make the bunny grey again

I updated my graphics drivers before I posted anything so that did not help. I may play around with the settings and see if those were causing a problem. If I find anything I will post the results here

For now, I will just work with basic rendering. Thanks so much for you help!

🙂

Glad to help. Thanks for the feedback!

The disadvantage of BasicRendering is that SHADERS do not work any more. Some tools (e.g. Hollow, Align or PlaneCut) use the transparent shader for giving you a better view on the to be expected result. In these tools the transparent part is rendered solid too using basic rendering. So you should switch back to normal rendering as soon as you do not want to see the groups and use VertexColor mode...
