.DCM how to add to list of files that Meshmixer could import

Dear all,

.DCM is a 3d file generated by a software that runs on a scanner called Trios scanner. This .DCM is very similar to .stl file but I am not sure what are the specific differences between the two.

Please is it possible to program MM to add this to the list of files it can open? And how can this be done? Attaching a .DCM file..

I tried to attach an example .DCM file but the forum itself doesn't support it lol!! So sharing from my google drive

I shall also add that 3shape viewer installation page looks like this, this software can open DCM and STL among other file extensions

.dcm (dicom) is a file format commonly used for xray/CT/MRI

Meshmixer only opens triangulated meshes: stl, obj, amf, ply, off, 3mf

However a google search will show there are lots of softwares out that can process the dicom 2D images into a 3D. mesh.

Hi. I asked the vendor of the scanner that produces the .DCM file. It is a 3d mesh but with colour information. If you read my two replies, the 3shape viewer opens this .DCM file and you will see it looks like an .stl file.

I am still looking for a solution to this probpem.

No autodesk product can open or convert a .dcm file.

Can 3shape export as .stl?

Only through 3shape orthoanalyzer software which is $$. Have you managed to look at the .dcm file I have shared above?

You still need to export it in as different file type if you then want to open this in Meshmixer.

Yes I saw that video. I am after a method to add .dcm to list of files that MM can recognise. Do you know how or where I could start?

Unfortunately MM is abandoned/unsupported.

This is not going to happen.

Especially because your .dcm file is not a true dicom file, its actually moreso an encrypted .stl file, just open your .dcm in notepad and you'll see. Its strange.
