How to slice a object uneven (not plane cut) ?

Hello to all,

i am using meshmixer since a few month and it is a great tool for working.

I would need to cut the edges along of a object but can not use the 'plane cut' tool from the edit menue because it's not a plane Surface.

I would need something where i can mark Points step by step along the Surface and then cut it after the complete Edge.

Is there a function likethis in meshmixer ?

Yep.

SELECT the surface you want > EDIT > SEPARATE

This will separate your selection off of your original part and create it as a new object in your object browser. If you don't like the jagged edges of the triangles, then before you separate it go MODIFY>SMOOTH BOUNDARY

Ok, but how can i mark the area i want to remove before i use 'separate' command ?

For practice example:

I have a insole and want to cut the the Edge around before i convert it to a milling file.

With the 'plane cut' tool i can not do this because it's all curved.

This is a process I do daily with my orthotic design and millings. I'm not quite following what you want done. Can you elaborate and post the .mix and do a screencast or post pictures.

Hello Andrew,

i was attaching a screenshot because the .mix file is too big for attaching.

I was designing a pair of insoles and want to cut / trimm the edges upside before i mill the insoles.

See red lines - this should be the trimming line.

I can not do that With the 'plane cut' tool.

Is there another tool to trim the insole ?

There is not a single 'tool' but you must perform a workflow of a couple tools.

SELECT the surface you want to keep
EDIT>SMOOTH BOUNDARY
INVERT
DISCARD
