Hello, I‘m using the educational version of Maya and wonder if I can save the rendered files on a remote machine. I‘m using the Render Sequence option, not batch rendering. And I‘m not talking on distributed rendering like on a render farm. I render locally, but want to drop the rendered images on another machine. The rendering options don‘t offer me an https.// option. Cheers!

You can have the renders saved to a remote drive. But that drive needs to be mounted in order to render to it. You cant render it to a website URL.

So I render a remote server, and I mount that drive on my machine through the finder or explorer (based on your operating system).

There are tutorials out there on how to do this. Without knowing more about where you're trying to send the files, I can't give you any more of a walkthrough.

Keep in mind when rendering to a server, your write speed will be added to the render times. So if your connection is slow and the files are big then you could be adding seconds to minutes to each rendered frame. My suggestion is just render the files locally and then upload them to the site you're trying to send them.

Hope this helps, let me know.

hi, and thanks for your kind words. i guess i‘ll stick to a method which proved to be robust and not eat up rendering time: render locally into my dropbox folder — which is being synced periodically. my question above arose after having installed my own server, which is at my home, and not in my studio where most of the rendering (for my tutorials mainly) takes place.

Ya, this is a server setup question at heart then.

Depending on how comfortable you are with network setup and how your home server connects to the internet. You can access your server via its network address and mount that as a drive.

This is getting to the end of my knowledge. I'd google the drive and see how to set it up as a mounted drive on your other machine. Then you can render to it to your heart's content.

Good luck!
