i think removing Hardware render buffer in Maya 2018 is a big mistake.. for one reason at least...

the hardware 2.0 doesn't support particle motion blur.. and in hardware render buffer i could mask all geometry but in Hardware render i can't do that..... is there any way to bring it back to Maya 2018

Hi!

I also wanted to create a thread about this, but wanted to wait for update 2 to see if there anything changes.

No Hardware Render Buffer and

no Maya Hardware (not 2.0).

So my questions are:

1. Hot to render Particles with Hardware now, as Maya Hardware 2.0 does not create motion blur for particles?

2. How to hardware render other objects with motion blur as Maya Hardware 2.0 is not capable of creating a "good" motion blur.

For me Hardware Rendering in Maya is now only usable for previews but not for final production.

Why removing a feature without a proper replacement?

No my friend unfortunately in update 2 or even maya 2019 there will be no
hardware render buffer. Sometime autodesk does things which they think it
is smart move but it is not. Like for example in modeling the removed
(merage edge tool) which I believe it is more suffecient more that the new
merge tool because this new tool can't help u to merge two edhe's already
collaps or touch each other ( I hope u understand what u mean) if I want to
use merage edhe tool the old one I write this command (merageEdgeTool) ...

Hi all!

I know this thread is a bit old but I just wanted to mention that you can actually get the Hardware Render and Buffer back if you open your May.env file and add "MAYA_ENABLE_LEGACY_VIEWPORT=1".

Kudos are greatly appreciated. Everyone likes a thumbs up!

You just need to open it in a text editor or if there's no file in there then simply create a text file called Maya.env.

It should work that way. Is it just giving you a warning about saving it as a .env file? If so you can ignore it.

Legacy viewport isn't a setting in Maya by default.

You need to open your Maya.env file in Notepad (which can be found in your Maya 2018 folder) and then add this line to it:

MAYA_ENABLE_LEGACY_VIEWPORT=1

I found the solution by setting the default viewport as Legacy Default Viewport in Preferences, as shown here:

This disables Viewport 2.0 while you use the hardware buffer.
