Rotate and Scale tools problem

I have used maya before a few times on my laptop to work on the simple character and the nurbs koi project but suddenly my rotate and scale tools dont have any manipulators on them. Clicking the rotate tool button does nothing and when I click the scale tool, I only get a yellow box. I've tried restarting my computer and resetting both tools. The move tool works fine. Its not an issue with the project because I tried just creating a new scene with a cube and the tools still wont work. I also tried pressing the plus and minus buttons.

I am a relatively new user and need to fix this problem because I have a modeling project due tomorrow.

Hi!

Check settings in Preferences -> Display -> Manipulators.

Maybe try Edit -> Restore Default Settings, or

try a reset of your preferences.
Rename the folder prefs in folder 2018 to something like prefs_backup, or to reset everything, the folder 2018 to 2018_backup (or even the maya folder to maya_backup). Maya creates new folders (don't copy preferences from previous Maya versions). Detailed at:
