Hum, that's weird... It should not triangulate if you don't select that option.

Did you try resetting the settings in the Cleanup options window?

About not being able to mirror correctly, you could select all the vertices that should on axis (through front view, for example), and force their coordinate to be 0 in the component editor. If you do that and mirror, it should behave properly (unless there are already vertices in the opposite side - in this case I would recommend checking if the mesh itself is okay. You could re-position a few vertices to be on the right side, or even move the entire mesh a little.)

Hope this helps!

Hello,

I've come across an issue that's affecting a model I'm doing that has to do with its symmetry (I'm using Maya 2019, student version)

I'm currently trying to select some vertices on a symmetrical model (used the Mirror tool to create its other side)- using the symmetry tool along "Object X". However, it sees as though the "Object X" axis has slightly shifted- therefore, some vertices don't have their symmetrical where it's supposed to be:

The vertex in blue should not be marked as symmetrical.

However, when I choose "World X" as an axis, the symmetry seems to work fine.

When I do a Mesh Cleanup, the edges change directions like this:

I don't know whether it should be doing this or not. As I said, it happens only in certain areas of the model.

I plan to map this model and I'm afraid this problem will interfere with the mapping process.

What could be causing this? Would there be any way to fix it?

Thank you very much

Hi!

In the Cleanup options, are you setting "4-sided faces" on?

I think that is what is changing your mesh (it's only triangulating it, I think).

Hi! Thanks for replying

Yes, I had set "4-sided faces" on for the Mesh Cleanup.

I have tried to do the Cleanup without that option selected, but the symmetry still acts like that; so cleaning up the Mesh doesn't seem to be working...
