Combining group geometry into one mesh

I am running into a strange problem with a model of a tree.

This tree consists of multiple branches (simple deformed cubes, not high poly) with planes with a leaf png texture applied to them. All of these connected to a tree base. In the workflow of making this I haven't combined any of the meshes to one another, I simply grouped them together. Now I have selected the group and tried "combine" in the "mesh" tab. It generates one geometry. The reason I want the group gone is for less information in the scene when I want to instance the geometry across the plane. But the group I made it of still exists. I cannot see the mesh, but when I delete it it removes all the texture from the newly generated mesh. Is there a way to make the texture still be applied to the mesh, and also removing the group?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!

You need to delete history.

You will find more about this in the Maya online documentation.
