topic baking selected nodes in MAYA? in Maya Modeling Forum

hi, a question about Node editor, is it possible to "bake" the geometry up to selected nodes only?

for example, I have this node chain =

and I want to bake the changes (basically deleting history) but only until the first polysplit node. (the one I marked with red arrow in the image below=

the reason is that I need to delete history to speed up my viewport, but I dont want to delete the entire history (basically I want to keep the history of 2 - 3 latest command)

is there a way to do it?

another question, is there a way to copy several nodes to an empty space in the node editor?

for example, before deleting all history I want to create a cuplicate copy of those node chain just in case if I need it back..is this possible?

thank you 🙂

if you use maya 2015 or below the easy answer is yes. download maya bonus tools. once loaded there is the possibility in modeling > mesh history edit > delete upstream mesh history.

i´m not very deep into this stuff since i don´t really need it often but was curious so i tried a manual way which could look like this:

hi, thanks for the reply, I guess that trick works 🙂 thanks very much. also I can just use instance when duplicating the object, with 1 transform node it allows me to keep my original history as separate geometry in which I can still reconnect it anytime if I want to make changes to the earlier history, then save it to "back up" layer.

thanks mate, this is really helpful. oh by the way, Maya slows down when we are working on object with long history chain right? it wont affect the performance when I have thousands object with history hidden in a layer with no link to any geometry on the scene whatsoever. ( file size can get extremely big though)
