I've tried mesh clean up and adjusting the Length tolerance for Edges with zero length all that occurs are polygons on the mesh collapse; when what I want to do is simply keep the mesh the same but clean up the non-planar polygons.

Note: Remove the DWG extension to make it a OBJ file.

I don't get it Falcon, your mesh looks perfect and does not contain non planar surfaces and goes to Sudv nicely, I only found 2 edge loops at the bottom that were raised to high showing shading issues, I just delete those 2 edges and did not affect the shape of the bottle.

damaggio is correct with the correct settings you can convert to sds. but like it was pointed out on polycount a week ago you have some zero length edges. (0.0002 and 0.0009 cm) which give you the trouble. the non-planar polys are still no probleme..

I can't remove those zero length edges with mesh clean up at the values you show; or any other value I tested, all that results is triangles being inserted into the mesh which I don't want and the mesh still won't convert !

ok last trial:

1. like damaggio said even without doing anything but the right settings for conversion you should be able to convert that mesh to sds.

2. i disagree with the mesh looking perfect. like damaggio pointed out you created coplanar faces resulting in shading issues. also there are some edgeloops moved off center which looks un-intentional. but thats more of an cosmetic issue.

3. non-planar faces in a mesh which gets subdivided are also not really an issue, don´t create problems for sds conversion and are sometimes impossible to prevent.

4. i don´t get how you don´t find these edges. if the automatic cleanup doesn´t help use it to select/find them and clean up by hand. thats 2 clicks. merge verts with low treshhold can work too. as said in point 1 it´s not necessary for conversion but bad modeling practice and maybe part of your "displacement spices" problem.

Should being the operative word; but it's not, and yes it probably is related to my displacement spikes issue. Regarding cleaning up by hand, I've deleted the non-planar faces and rebuilt them and they won't disappear.

As you mentioned merge verticies with a low threshold, I've tried that as well by selecting all the vertices on the mesh followed by Merge Verticies options at a low threshold and the mesh continues not to convert ?

It may be simple, how do you use Mesh Clean up to find Zero length edges which as I know are sometimes caused by very low extrusions ?

Co-Planar faces and edges off center ?
