Go to the settings and change your units to MM and you will be all set. Playing with units in Maya can get pretty whacky....just be sure to have Maya set to the proper unit before importing models....if Maya is in inches and you import a model in MM you will propbably get adverse effects.

I model to real world scale every day.

No I mean if I want to extrude to 150mm how could I do that?
So open maya and changed unite setting to mm, and I created a box, put size 1200 x750x25, m trying to create a desk, after that I tried to extruder one side face to 25mm,, when I enter that that extruded faces longer than the table,
And I tried Cinema 4D, and it works like 3rd max,

Well...you are using the wrong platform to model something like you would in a design platform like cad or solidworks.

Use the measure took....and use the grid to snap to specific dimensions.....

If you set your units to mm and extrude by entering 25 in the local translate Z field, you should get an extrusion of 25mm. See attached..I started with the dimensions you mentioned.

Beveling is a little different. See the help on bevel options.

Can anyone say specifically what
"whacky" problems happen when changing the working units in prefs to feet/inches? Why is it forbidden? I've been working in feet/inches for years and never noticed anything other than clipping planes that need adjusting. But I'm wondering now, in 2016 / 2017 versions of maya - if the frame buffer and lights might be affected differently when scaling everything up so large in feet / inches mode. Any thoughts?

If you have an object that is a specific number in length.....changing the units will change it to that number of units you changed it to....and not scale appropriately.
Hi, yes that maybe be true but I change units to feet at the beginning of a project and leave it that way. So I've never experience what you've mentioned. I'm wondering if anyone specifically experiences banding issues when rendering in Mental ray, 16 bit modes such as rgba 4x16 etc. This might not be the right forum for my issue!
