topic How to color the inside of a tube? in Maya Modeling Forum

Hi everyone,

I am a very new user of Maya(started this week) and I have a very basic question, which I couldn't find an answer in any online tutorial.

How do I color the inside part(only) of a tube?

My goal is to animate a ball going through a water slide(without the water), my water slide is already painted in blue as you can see in the attached picture(I know it looks horrible, but that's not the point).

But I want to color the inside part differently, how do I do that? I thought of selecting faces but when I do, the face works in both sides(in and out) of the tube, so it doesn't work.

Can anyone help? Please explain in the most dumb way possible, because I barely know most of the commands.

Thanks!!

Welcome to Maya!

At the moment your water slide is single sided. You will need to give it some thickness by Extruding the faces and giving them some thickness. Then you will be able to select the inner faces and give them a separate material.

Hi!

As said by @djonesuk you can do this by giving the water slide a depth and then select the inner faces.

But you can also make a shader that gives a face different colors based on normal direction (front side / back side).
