Maya Insert Edge Loop Symmetry Not Working

I am fairly new to Maya and I am working with adding edge loops to harden edges. I have applied symmetry to the World X on the Move Tool and the object is centered at the origin. I have reset the Insert Edge Loop Tool as well however when I go to insert a new edge loop, a preview is not shown on the opposite side and the end result is an incomplete edge loop that is not symmetrical to the one I placed. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

maybe there is gap between your model somewhere
check that area

Centre you axis then place your object on the world centre then modify > freeze transformations and then try symmetry.

I am also new but someone gave me this answer and it worked fine.
