Creating models guide: moving vertex, edges and faces i get different results

I'm watching this video tutorial (Autodesk Maya Learning): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAVdIUyNgQY
At 3 minutes and 16 seconds of the video, the tutorial shows how to change the shape of a simple poligon, a rectangle, by selecting (with vertex selection) a vertex and dragging it. If i try to do the same, i get a different result. I explain better... In the video, moving (dragging) a vertex, the other vertices stay in their position, instead if I move (drag) a vertex, the other vertices move too, getting a completely different result from the video. Why? The same thing happens with edges and faces. See the attached picture to see my effect.

PS: errata corrige, I drew a parallelepiped, not a rectangle (obviously)

You have Soft Select enabled (hotkey "B").
