Hi!

Extrude + Curves is the right choice for cables and pipework (for Nurbs and Polygons).

Hello.
I've switched from max to maya.
I make alot of cables and pipes.

In max it's easy. Create a path from a selection or make a line. Hit "render in viewport" and tweak.
Or sweep modifier etc.

Maya isn't so easy.
Some tutorials online say use curves with surfaces. In my Maya 2018 surfaces don't exist?

Some say extrude faces along a curve. That doesn't work well either.

Any ideas or free scrips available?

Cheers 🙂

I cant believe Bonus tools hasnt been mentioned.

Create a Curve ... Go to Bonus tools menu / Modeling / Curve to Tube. Adjust the settings in the channel box til you get what you want.

https://apps.autodesk.com/MAYA/en/Detail/Index?id=8115150172702393827&appLang=en&os=Linux

I made a quick video here...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgH2QasT29k
