I've applied a lattice to a scanned .STL file. It looks great in Maya.

I send my data to Zbrush, and I can see 'ribs' on the mesh in the same grid as the lattice. These are really ugly and hard to get rid of.

I cannot see them in Maya.

I tried setting my mesh to hard edges, and I still can't see the ugly marks in maya.

I tried looking at the latticed data in a few other programs, and some will show the lattice marks, and some will not.

I believe the sculpting tools are in the same boat, the affected model can look great in maya but look horrible when the data is sent to another program.

I'd love for my model to look exactly like it does in maya when I open it in Zbrush.

What's going on?

The forums were down for a couple days, but here is the info.

I've attached the scan.

Here is what I see in Maya, the latticed model is on the right. Looks good.

Here is what Zbrush sees. The car on the right has long pinches from the lattice.

I've tried exporting as .STL, OBJ, and FBX. I've tried turning on a few options in the FBX format but no luck. I've also tried Harden Edges in Maya on the maximum setting but I still can't see the lattice marks.

Hi!

I was able to see edges too in Maya when using Lattice with wrong settings.

Please upload the exported file (that looks wrong).

Hi!

In Maya use Unlock Normals and you see the problem there too.

Maybe ZBrush does not support Locked Normals, it would also not make sense to use Locked Normals if you plan to do massive changes to an object as you would normally do in an application like ZBrush.

Correct normals in Maya (maybe use better settings for Lattice for a smoother result).

Creating a Bump or Normal Map will also not help if you plan to edit the file further in ZBrush.
