topic Artifacts when inserting new edges with multicut-tool at scanned model in Maya Modeling Forum

Hello!

I'm pretty new to Maya. Currently I am working on my bachelor thesis. For this I compare different recording methods for interactive objects. My test object is a control cabinet.
When post-processing the scan data in Maya, I currently have problems. To open the cabinet doors, I have to add more edges. As soon as I try this with the multi-cut tool in Maya, I get artifacts on the newly inserted edges (see the attached screenshot). For the other recording methods I could use the tool without any problems.
With the program CloudCompare the original point cloud was converted to the mesh, then I created a texture map from the Vertex Colors in Maya. Maybe there was a mistake somewhere?

I am not sure if I should write in modeling or in shading board. Because if I set Flat Shade instead of Smooth shade in the panel, the whole mesh is brighter and the artifacts are no longer visible. But if I export the mesh and load it into Unity, you can see the artifacts again.

I really hope that one of you understands this problem and knows how to solve it.

I attached a screenshot (on which the problem can be seen), as well as the model as an fbx and the required texture map for the model. The Maya Version i use is Maya 2018.

Best regards
Jasmin

Probably messed up normals. Select the verticles in the area and "mesh display - set vertex normal"

Fixed it! That was easier as expected 🙂 Thank you very much!
