Symmetry not working (Tried several methods already)

Hi I tried researching before posting, but it seems that I haven't been able to find my answer as of yet. After merging 2 polygons, I am now unable to access the symmetry tool. My mesh is only selecting one vert even with the symmetry function turned on. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Here are some methods I tried:

Double checking if I have symmetry turned on which I had already
Testing the different symmetry axis to see if I was on the wrong one. Unfortunately that didn't work
Going to Edit>Modify axis
Restarting Maya and opening the file

Hi!

If none of the symmetry modes works, just re-create one half by using Mirror.

Thank you very much for your advice! I just tried this method and it appears to have fixed my problem. 🙂

For future reference, would this method also work on a high poly count asset? I wonder if switching to box modeling is better even though it's quite uncomfortable to model in for me hah.

Hi!

Mirroring a half will create a symmetrical mesh and is independent of poly count.
