snap and align to surface

is there any equivalent to select and place tool (3ds max) in Maya so I can interactively snap and align objects to surface based on their pivot?

Iam using live surface for this. When you make object live, other objects will snap to its surface. by their pivot, or other components when used verteces or edges.

Using live surface only snap pivots or other components to surface but it doesn't align the object to the surface normal like select and place in 3ds max!

yes there is, its under Modify >align tools....don't know which one right now but check the Docs or Youtube.

it's Snap together, But It Is Not Interactive!

if u ever see select and place or use it in 3ds max u know what I mean!

That looks cool but I don't know from the top of my head in Maya, maybe Bonus tools has some additional scripts to help on this.

Sorry I can't be more helpful right now, I'm in middle of production.

Maybe someone else will chime in.

Hi!

To make it short, there is nothing like this in Maya.

You can do something similar by using tools like

- Modify -> Snap...

- Modify -> Align...

- Live Surface

- Constraints

- MASH - Placer Node (paint)

- Bonus Tools (paint...) ( https://area.autodesk.com/blogs/the-maya-blog/bonustools/ )

- or even XGen

- ...

But again, a tool like shown in the video is currently not available in Maya.
