Most FBX files do nothing in Maya LT. I click import I get no errors and nothing appears. It's as if I have done nothing. No meshes apprear, etc. Just the same empty scene I had before. I know the files are good because they open in other programs. Even $50 programs like Fragmotion import them just fine but Maya LT does not. What am I doing wrong?

Hi There, I understand you are having a problem importing FBX into Maya LT, normal FBX import is fully supported, so I'm not sure what is happening for you, can you post one of your files so we can try it out here?

Thanks,
Remi

Remi McGill
Games Solutions Group
Autodesk Media and Entertainment

Hi,

I would recommend you download FBX review (FREE). http://area.autodesk.com/products/features/2013fbx

If FBX Review can’t open them then there is something delinquent in the file themselves.

If its just localized to Maya LT opening them, please do send us the files and a description of where they originated from so we can investigate the issue.

You can log an issue from the following location. http://www.autodesk.com/mayalt-bugreport (Can also be found in the help menu)

Post back if you have additional information.

Cheers

Hi

On my side the FBX file imports as expected. I wonder if your FBX preset got adjusted and is causing the issue.

Can you either reset your preferences for Maya LT; or in the File->Import dialog make sure the preset is set to ‘Autodesk Media & Entertainment’

I noticed that I can emulate the behaviour you describe if under the Include:: File Content section, I set the value to Update animation only.

Let me know.

There is no errors, nothing in the log.

Although the solution was found for the OP; due to it not working for me (and possibly others), I prefered not to open a second topic.

Please help.

I'm having much the same issue, it's hilarious the free version of Paint 3d that ships with Windows 10 has no problem with the file but Maya LT does. I'm using the Autodesk Media and Entertainment Preset and literally nothing happens on import.

Hi, I know its years later but Ill put this answer here for future artists that come and read this. It all has to do with the naming of your objects in the scene, If you already have another model that has a similar name it wont import anything as Maya will take it as if it was already there. Hope this helps.
