It seems that your forums can't accept *.mlt extensions when I try to upload a Maya LT scene.

Hi,

I have a scene I tried to load and Maya LT is starting to have its process hanging in the task manager.

This seems to occur randomly, as occasionally, it loads the scene, but textures aren't loaded completely, not to mention some of the geometry gets scrambled.

I noticed this behavior as my scene becomes more complex with 20 materials and rising.

I am unsure what I could do to remedy the situation, except to maybe combine textures into a single atlas, though that would make the maintenance of the scene unmanageable.

Regards,

Mark

I've loaded your scene fine and I also had UE4 open in the background just to see if this would recreate the issue and sadly Maya LT runs fine. I would recommend first checking to make sure you are on the most recent version of Maya LT and that you have all of your updates. You can also try deleting your settings/preferences. If none of this works you should run Maya without anything in the background like Unity, Photoshop etc. and see if it still hangs. I think its a hardware issue but try these out and let me know what changes.

Hi Sean,

Thanks for trying!

Did you try with similar hardware specifications?

Yeah, like I said, its somewhat random. But also, I think its consistent, if I try to have a much larger deskop, (e.g two simultaneous displays) than one.

Best,

Mark

No problem! I'm on an extremely powerful computer with 3 monitors so it could be a hardware issue on your end. However your scene isn't that high poly but it could be just the sheer amount of material calling Maya has to do especially if you're working with high res textures.

Okay! I guess that settles it, I will get some better performing hardware such as a Surface Book with an nVidia GPU.

I was wondering, is there any automated tools in LT that you can merge both UV's and textures into a new atlas? Or do I have to do that manually using photoshop to arrange my textures and manually reposition my UVs in Maya LT to use the new atlas. I just know in Unity, which is the engine I am using, there are some utilities that permits you to do that.

You can do some basic adjustment to your UVs and textures within Maya but in general, especially for game development, using photoshop is the best way to go because you have full control over the textures and their placement. Especially if you are placing multiple UV's/textures onto one 1024 or 2048 texture for like a trim sheet for example you will definitely want to do the Maya to photoshop workflow.
